Timber is graded in strength classes, relative to BS EN 14081-1: 2005, ie C16 or the stronger C24 grade. The timber is usually machine graded or can be visually graded, having regard to criteria, such as the number of knots, fissures and slope of the grain etc. This C16 timber is also treated for longer life outdoors.
