‘ This is the first time Villa were recorded as wearing claret. Over time Villa developed strong ties with the large Scottish community who were drawn to the city’s thriving engineering industry. The Scottish Lion was emblazoned across the chest in 1878 on black kits, but due to the fading whilst being washed, a new shirt was introduced in 1880!
